International Walk to School Day

Chapman’s Retreat Elementary to celebrate International Walk to School Day on October 8, 2015

Chapman’s Retreat Elementary School will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day on October 8, 2015.

We are encouraging as many students, parents, and teachers to walk to school on this day.  The event will begin at 8:10, with students, parents, and teachers walking or biking to school.  Teachers in the past have met their students on the trail at the bridge, and walked the rest of the distance with them. Bus riders will be let off at the top of the hill, so they can be included in the event.

Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools and the broader community.

For those that need to cross Duplex, Spring Hill Police Department will be there in the morning and afternoon. They will be assisting walkers to cross the road from 8:15 to 8:35 in the morning and then 3:30 to 3:45 in the afternoon.
